Signed into Law
Digital Fair Repair Act
Summary
The first US general consumer-electronics right-to-repair law. Requires manufacturers to give the public and independent repairers the same diagnostic information, parts, and tools provided to authorized providers, for devices first made and sold in New York on or after July 1, 2023. Narrowed before signing — manufacturers may supply assemblies rather than individual parts, and the law excludes automotive, medical, public-safety, off-road equipment, and home appliances.
