Right to Repair Act (Consumer Electronic Equipment)
Summary
Requires manufacturers of consumer electronic devices to provide owners and independent repair facilities the parts, tools, and documentation needed for repair on fair and reasonable terms. First US law to ban 'parts pairing' — using software to serialize components so a device rejects independently sourced replacements — for covered devices made on or after January 1, 2025. (2024 Oregon Laws ch. 69.)
