Why this grade
Direct-sales EV maker with a tiny service network, but — unlike Tesla — it publishes a documented independent-repairer access program: register via [email protected] with a Business Account + Digital Access Agreement to get a free Parts Catalog, or paid tiers at $2,500/yr (Parts Catalog + Service Manual + online training) and $5,500/yr (adds Rivian Diagnostic 'RiDE' tools). It also partnered with ALLDATA to broaden professional repair access and does NOT mandate that all service occur at Rivian facilities (though the warranty can be voided by improper repair). Drags: no DIY/consumer service manuals or diagnostic tooling (critics argue this may violate several state R2R laws), steep pricing for full access, very limited parts supply and service network as a young low-volume OEM, and EV-typical high repair costs. Signed onto the 2023 R2R pact alongside Tesla. Lands at the F/D boundary; the documented, published access program places it just above Tesla.
