Score breakdown
Why this grade
iFixit rates iPads among the worst tablets: iPad 6/7 = 2/10, iPad Air 6 and iPad Pro 11" = 3/10, with the M5 iPad Pro (Oct 2025) earning Apple's best-ever iPad score of just 5/10 due to a 'repair paradox' of glued, fragile displays. Apple launched Self Service Repair for iPad in May 2025 (genuine displays, batteries, cameras, ports + manuals + Apple Diagnostics), so parts/manual availability is now real, but serialized components require System Configuration (parts pairing) or features degrade, and OEM parts are priced at authorized-provider rates (high). Adhesive-heavy construction is the dominant penalty.
Methodology & version
Five dimensions — parts availability, schematic access, repairability, OEM pricing, and software freedom — are scored 0–100 and weighted equally; the letter grade is the average (A 90–100, B 80–89, C 70–79, D 60–69, F below 60). This assessment is current as of 6/9/2026 and cites its sources below. It covers the Tablets category and is not a claim about every device the maker ships.
